Manchester artist, Emma Evans and London based photographer Richard Kelly have teamed up to create a new book titled ‘MY UTOPIA’. Combining Richard’s gritty urban photography Emma’s playful characters create intriguing and charming scenes which are celebrated in the 145 plus strong collection. Emma says ‘While in lockdown I was following Richards journey on Instagram and thought our styles would be a perfect collaboration, I could visualise my fun positive doodles, characters within Richards photography.’
Revaluation of daily life, what's important stuff, filtering out the noise, remembering to have fun.
Originally presented back in September at the Carlton Club Manchester, the free exhibition represented a meaningful moment for an event born through the national lockdown. People in the same room again, replicating the party atmosphere depicted in the pieces.
[It] really represents the spirit of Manchester and that longing of people wanting to be together dancing again
‘The photograph was taken down a back street with this lovely pink light, I illustrated a creature, the decks and people with their hands in the air dancing. This one [above] really represents the spirit of Manchester and that longing of people wanting to be together dancing again. It is called ‘Party People’.’
‘Richard and I have been on a journey through the development of the collaboration. The illustrative narrative is showcasing feelings exemplified last year, highlighting the important connections with friends and family, reconnecting with people loved ones. Revaluation of daily life, what's important stuff, filtering out the noise, remembering to have fun.’
As well as the book, there are four prints available to buy from the NovusArts website of selected work from the project.
